An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale or comteporay legend is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories usually believed by their tellers to be true. Despite its name an urban legend dos not necessarilly originate in an urban area.
Dominican urban legends
Joaquin balaguer was president of the Dominican Republic, and it was said that as log as he had his hat on, a major hurricane would never hit the island. When he died in 2002, he was apparentlly buried with his hat on so the island would be protected until the material rots away.
Galipote
These myhical creatures are men who made deals with the devil and can turn into animals or inanimate objects, such as rocks or tree stumps. They like to frighten peolple travelling at night and enjoy getting them lost.
