HISTORY OF BASEBALL IN THE DOMICAN REPUBLIC

for over 100 years, baseball has been at the center of cultural life in the domican republic. though the origins of baseball in dominican republic aren't exacty known historians suggest tha baseball first came to the island around the 1805. though it is a historical misconception that american marines brought the game to the island during the 1916 invasion the united states did play an integral,though indirect,role in bringing baseball here.

eventually four teams we formed, becoming the oldest,and founding organizations of baseball in the country. los tigres del licey.(the tigers)was founded in santo domingo(in order tocompete with club ozama y club nuevo)in 1907.the other team was los leones del escogido. las estrellas orintales(eastern stars)was founded in san pedro de macori in the year 1911. later in 1921, los leones del escogido(lions of the chosen one)was founded in santo domingo. the last was las aguilas cibaenas, was founded in 1936.

in conclusion, though the strength of dominican baseball is now found in each of the major leagues 30 teams, baseball still remains an important part of this country's history and an impotant cultural outlet on the island.

Dominican Baseball!!!!

The history of baseball in the Dominican Republic began in the late nineteenth century. It quickly became the most popular sport in this country.Apparently Cubans were sailors who spread the sport in the Dominican Republic during their stays in port. Since then, the country has won the Baseball World Cup in 1948, being runners-up in 1942, 1950 and 1952 and third in 1943, 1953 and 1969. Six have been the Caribbean Series to be held in the Dominican Republic.

At present there are 6 teams in the country. Santo Domingo has two teams. Each team will play fifty games a season starting October and ending in February. For next season will be inaugurated on October 16, 2010 the tenth winter baseball tournament of the Dominican Republic.The teams that take part are: The Leones del Escogido, Tigres del Licey, Gigantes del Cibao, Toros de Este, Estrellas Orientales y Águilas Cibaeñas.

Legends in the Darkness

When i was a child i loved to hear about legends or any story that were doing my brothers,cousins and me to feel scared before to go to bed. It was funny when after each story we go to bed early and the fear made us to hear voices, or many noises that in the reality it doesnt exist; sometimes we cried in the nights but in the next morning we discussed about who were the fearful who was crying. I remember with melancholy those times. we dont share at less not like when we were children, sometimes is difficult to give a minute by cellphone maybe waiting that the other person do it before... in other times I think that we miss a lot my dead cousins and to be together make us feel really very sad ......

I beleive that the traditions about to hear or express legends is losing with the passage of time, nowadays children and young people dont have the opportunities to hear these amazings stories, they spend their times making other things like going to the disco or playing games by computer.

my neigborhood and the baseball

i live in san luis. It is small and has two places where the young boys can practice tha baseball. The baseball is the most famous sport in san luis and has two part one good and one bad.

the good part is that young boys does not think in bad thing when they are practicing baseball and keep their mind occupe but the bad part is that the mayority of them drop out the school and think that baseball is all in their life, they do not know that the education would be the most important not the baseball.

In san luis are a lot parents that help their children to think that the only way to leave to be poor person is being baseball player in a famous team and study is to lose time.

Baseball is good when young boys are conciencous that they can practice it but they must study.

Hello People!

Last class We were talking about Urban Legend or Tales and I was telling you something about "GALIPOSTES".

Remember that "GALIPOTE" is a normal person that can change its body for another form or become into animals or inanimated objets.

My Grandfather told me that this person can fly, walk on water, jump long distances and another magic things. I don't want to believe but the evil exist too. Also He told me that He Knew men that they were Galipotes but those people are dead for doing the evil.

My Grandpa says: If you do the evil will pay with your life.

People, all those Legends are parts of our folklore, We have to live with them for the rest of our days.
