Dominican Baseball!!!!
The history of baseball in the Dominican Republic began in the late nineteenth century. It quickly became the most popular sport in this country.Apparently Cubans were sailors who spread the sport in the Dominican Republic during their stays in port. Since then, the country has won the Baseball World Cup in 1948, being runners-up in 1942, 1950 and 1952 and third in 1943, 1953 and 1969. Six have been the Caribbean Series to be held in the Dominican Republic.
At present there are 6 teams in the country. Santo Domingo has two teams. Each team will play fifty games a season starting October and ending in February. For next season will be inaugurated on October 16, 2010 the tenth winter baseball tournament of the Dominican Republic.The teams that take part are: The Leones del Escogido, Tigres del Licey, Gigantes del Cibao, Toros de Este, Estrellas Orientales y Águilas Cibaeñas.
