To continute definitions of concepts treated in this topic contamination by rubbish in Santo Domingo.

Garbage:
Is all material considerated as wastes and need remove.

  Pollution:
Contamination is the presence or addition to the environment of toxic substances or elements that are harmful to humans or ecosystems. It is the presence of substances such as trash, pesticides, sewage of human origin strange environment, causing changes in the structure.

waste:
Is unwanted or useless materials. In biology, waste is any of the many unwanted substances or toxins that are expelled from living organisms; such as urea, sweat or feces. Litter is waste which has been disposed of improperly.

Santo Domingo like all metropolis, cities over a million inhabitants, have its own problems. The city has a high contamination because Dominicans don’t have a recycling tradition. The waste has become a major pollution problem in the Dominican Republic. Today the country is producing over 6,000 tons per day of solid waste, which are set to open. Santo Domingo is not among the most polluted cities of the world, it is not among the top 10, nor does it make it to the top 100. Only megacities with 10 million plus inhabitants made it the top 10.

´´The garbage collection system and the destination of solid waste in the country is very fragile and requires a total change in its infrastructure´´,   said Domingo Contreras who is secretary general of the National District City Council.
He admitted the precariousness of service to respond to challenges made by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in a diagnosis of the conditions under which performs garbage collection in the Commonwealth of municipalities of Santo Domingo called ´´Great and the final destination is gives solid waste´´ and is necessary to find alternatives to strengthen infrastructure and improve waste management.

The study said that these problems pose a high risk of contamination of soil, groundwater and surface water, air pollution and direct effect on the health of the population.

Causes                                                     effect                                                further effects
People throw garbage                        pollution is affecting us                             odors
Industries do not respect laws                                                            species are disappearing
                                                                                                        including important rivers
Government do not work a lot hard enough                                                          people do not interesting
                                                                                                           help them.
People don’t have education                                                              the pollution increase

The first cause is the people do not throw garbage at their respective places to keep our public places clean where we can walk free, for that reason, the streets of our country stands with odors, this picture is a example that I took while I walked In Honduras neighborhood in Santo Domingo.
         Independiente Avenue

The second case, the industries do not respect laws environmental established in our Constitution, other results are the disappearance of some species including pollution of major river of the country.

The third cause, the government does not work hard enough to end the problem as the fact people are not helping, and as a last cause, the people don’t have education to help each other and effect each day once again increases pollution though standing water and air that breathe, contributing to respiratory diseases and stomach diseases such as cholera.

Standing and dirty water around Independence Avenue and streets are  serious  problems, this situation occurs when people throw litters for that reason  the pipe or drain becomes clogged causing flooding on the tracks or road where vehicles  pass.
I think as citizens we must become aware of and that affects us all and we must be examples to other cities and we are part of the main city in our country the Dominican Republic.
