URBAN LEGENDS

In our country, Dominican Republic, there are many stories which are invented by people. Many of those stories are handed down from generation to generation. Some of those stories have in common that they are frightening, scaring, but none of them has been proved at all. One of the most known story is about witches. Since I was a child, I heard about an ugly old woman who visits the newborn babies at nights and sucks their blood. Some people use strange things to protect babies from witches. These objects ared called ¨amuletos¨. This is a kind of protection against any satanic influence. Some people believe that these things were transmitted from African culture.
