All things around the world change. Languages are not the exception.In our previous classes we were studying vanishing languages. And we could see that there are a lot of languages that are disappearing, and another ones that are called ¨killer languages¨. Our language is far from vanish, because it is one of the most powerful languages around the world. And, also there are a lot of documents written in it.But the Dominican Spanish is being killed for several languages,specially English.
I was taking a literature class a month ago. And after reading some articles and documents about the history of our literature,I could notice that although
it was written for Dominican people I couldn´t understand it very well.
It will happend in the next decades with our Spanish, and globalization is helping to do it. We are in the high- tech fad,and as a result,all these terms will be included in our Spanish. For instance, when people are looking for a job it is better if they are bilingual, and if they know about technological things that are almost always in English. Another examples are when we go to the supermarket-there are a great number of articles that came from other languages; when we are in malls-the names of most stores are in other languages,too. Also if we watch TV we can see that there are programs in all kind of languages. Tourism is other factor that allows the disappearing of our language. We have to be bilingual in order to achieve a better relation with the main economical activity,which contributes to the higher number of foreign words in our Dominican Spanish.
In conclusion, our Dominican Spanish is disappearing because of globalization.

ResponderEliminarI agree with your point, but there is an issue that you didn't mention. I think that the education authorities should do something about it. I mean, they can implement a campaign in order to protect our language. All the time we are going to have some influences from other dialects or languages, but if we are prepared in order to receive those influences (new words) without endangering ours, we can get a richer language instead of an endangered one.
I agree with you and I think that our language is vanishing eventhough people here speaks half English and half Spanish, it´s easy to see that newspapers, magazines and television are part of this situation, show how our language dies slowly, losing our language is like losing a part of our body, the best way to protect our language is to inculcate our young people what is necessary and important that our language, learn a second language and acquire knowledge is good but not worth anything to win one and lose another language, to keep in existence our language is keep our culture alive.
