Vanishing Languages

Most of the world's 6,000-plus languages will have died out by the end of the century, experts predicted yesterday. Linguists issued fresh warnings about the perilous position of the thousands of languages spoken mainly by adults but increasingly rarely by their children and grandchildren.

They said the continuing drive for the young to communicate in one of the three most popular tongues - English, Spanish or Mandarin - threatens to destroy a key ingredient of humanity's cultural heritage.

Scientists estimate there are 6,000 to 8,000 identifiable languages in the world and that most are spoken by less than a few thousand individuals, making them especially vulnerable to extinction.

  1. One of the things that we can interpret from this article is that our language is not in a "perilous" position, in other words, it might not disappear as quickly as others.

There are vanishing language as there are vanishing culture the problem is when a language doesn`t have write form and when doesn`t have a lot of speaker any language can disapear, an other thing that is so important if a language is comertial is difficult to vanish as Mandarin, English, Spanish and others.
