HOW TO GET A HIGH GRADE ON A TEST

Go to class. Especially if you're in college.
Sit in the front row and participate in class. By sitting in the front row, distractions are minimized and performance heightened. Asking questions or providing answers helps the student to stay engaged in the learning process.

Do your homework. Homework may seem like torture, but it IS really designed to help you learn.
Ask questions. OK, so you did your homework, but you still don't understand how to do an exercise of English. Go ahead and ask your teacher, OR A professor--even other students may be able to help.
Review before the test. Good job! You went to class, did your homework, and got your questions answered. Now, the test is tomorrow. Do you a) breathe a sigh of relief and go to bed; b) turn on the t.v. and watch the Simpsons; or c) review what you've learned? That's right, it's time to review. This is not the time for cramming, however; you're better prepared than that anyway. Go over your notes, take practice tests, and make sure you have important formulas memorized.
Relax. Make sure you get a good night's sleep the night before the test. You'll feel better and think more clearly if you're well rested. Good bye! Summer Eglish class. Say hello to Atilano! jeje

Prepositions

Prepositions:
Locators in
Time and Place

Hey guys!.....
Last night we were talking about some mistakes that probably some of us have, consequently I did a research to enrich my knowledge, so I want to share what I found, with you....

Taken from:
http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/prepositions.htm

A preposition describes a relationship between other words in a sentence. In itself, a word like "in" or "after" is rather meaningless and hard to define in mere words. For instance, when you do try to define a preposition like "in" or "between" or "on," you invariably use your hands to show how something is situated in relationship to something else. Prepositions are nearly always combined with other words in structures called prepositional phrases. Prepositional phrases can be made up of a million different words, but they tend to be built the same: a preposition followed by a determiner and an adjective or two, followed by a pronoun or noun (called the object of the preposition). This whole phrase, in turn, takes on a modifying role, acting as an adjective or an adverb, locating something in time and space, modifying a noun, or telling when or where or under what conditions something happened.

Consider the professor's desk and all the prepositional phrases we can use while talking about it.

You can sit before the desk (or in front of the desk). The professor can sit on the desk (when he's being informal) or behind the desk, and then his feet are under the desk or beneath the desk. He can stand beside the desk (meaning next to the desk), before the desk, between the desk and you, or even on the desk (if he's really strange). If he's clumsy, he can bump into the desk or try to walk through the desk (and stuff would fall off the desk). Passing his hands over the desk or resting his elbows upon the desk, he often looks across the desk and speaks of the desk or concerning the desk as if there were nothing else like the desk. Because he thinks of nothing except the desk, sometimes you wonder about the desk, what's in the desk, what he paid for the desk, and if he could live without the desk. You can walk toward the desk, to the desk, around the desk, by the desk, and even past the desk while he sits at the desk or leans against the desk.

All of this happens, of course, in time: during the class, before the class, until the class, throughout the class, after the class, etc. And the professor can sit there in a bad mood [another adverbial construction].

Those words in bold blue font are all prepositions. Some prepositions do other things besides locate in space or time — "My brother is like my father." "Everyone in the class except me got the answer." — but nearly all of them modify in one way or another. It is possible for a preposition phrase to act as a noun — "During a church service is not a good time to discuss picnic plans" or "In the South Pacific is where I long to be" — but this is seldom appropriate in formal or academic writing.

Click HERE for a list of common prepositions that will be easy to print out.

You may have learned that ending a sentence with a preposition is a serious breach of grammatical etiquette. It doesn't take a grammarian to spot a sentence-ending preposition, so this is an easy rule to get caught up on (!). Although it is often easy to remedy the offending preposition, sometimes it isn't, and repair efforts sometimes result in a clumsy sentence. "Indicate the book you are quoting from" is not greatly improved with "Indicate from which book you are quoting."

Based on shaky historical precedent, the rule itself is a latecomer to the rules of writing. Those who dislike the rule are fond of recalling Churchill's rejoinder: "That is nonsense up with which I shall not put." We should also remember the child's complaint: "What did you bring that book that I don't like to be read to out of up for?"

Is it any wonder that prepositions create such troubles for students for whom English is a second language? We say we are at the hospital to visit a friend who is in the hospital. We lie in bed but on the couch. We watch a film at the theater but on television. For native speakers, these little words present little difficulty, but try to learn another language, any other language, and you will quickly discover that prepositions are troublesome wherever you live and learn. This page contains some interesting (sometimes troublesome) prepositions with brief usage notes. To address all the potential difficulties with prepositions in idiomatic usage would require volumes, and the only way English language learners can begin to master the intricacies of preposition usage is through practice and paying close attention to speech and the written word. Keeping a good dictionary close at hand (to hand?) is an important first step.

Prepositions of Time: at, on, and in

We use at to designate specific times.
#The train is due at 12:15 p.m.

We use on to designate days and dates.

We use in for nonspecific times during a day, a month, a season, or a year.

#It's too cold in winter to run outside.
#He started the job in 1971.
#He's going to quit in August.

We use since with a specific date or time.
#He's worked here since 1970.

Prepositions with Nouns, Adjectives, and Verbs.

Prepositions are sometimes so firmly wedded to other words that they have practically become one word. (In fact, in other languages, such as German, they would have become one word.) This occurs in three categories: nouns, adjectives, and verbs.

belief in

confusion about
desire for

fondness for
grasp of

A combination of verb and preposition is called a phrasal verb. The word that is joined to the verb is then called a particle. Please refer to the brief section we have prepared on phrasal verbs for an explanation.

Idiomatic Expressions with Prepositions

  • agree to a proposal, with a person, on a price, in principle
  • argue about a matter, with a person, for or against a proposition
  • compare to to show likenesses, with to show differences (sometimes similarities)
  • correspond to a thing, with a person
  • differ from an unlike thing, with a person
  • live at an address, in a house or city, on a street, with other people

Unnecessary Prepositions

In everyday speech, we fall into some bad habits, using prepositions where they are not necessary. It would be a good idea to eliminate these words altogether, but we must be especially careful not to use them in formal, academic prose.

  • She met up with the new coach in the hallway.
  • The book fell off of the desk.
  • He threw the book out of the window.
  • She wouldn't let the cat inside of the house. [or use "in"]
  • Where did they go to?
  • Put the lamp in back of the couch. [use "behind" instead]
  • Where is your college at?

Happy Teachers ´ day

Hello,

I want to say ¡CONGRATULATIONS! to our teacher and if there are any other teachers in the class, this blog is also for you.

I decided to say congratulations to our teacher, because I´m a teacher and almos nobody say hey JD congratulations. Because in Dominican Republic teachers´ day is not the bid shot, like mothers´day or Independence´s day.

So let me share one quotation from Howard G. Hendricks, who was an American teacher and writer.

"Teaching that impacts is not head to head, but heart to heart."

(La enseñanza que deja huella no es la que se hace de cabeza a cabeza, sino de corazón a corazón.)

From the my deep heart HAPPY TEACHERS´ DAY!

Here some interesting photos about teachers:

Blue Baby, Baby Blue

Baby blue is a baby who was murdered by his psychotic mother. Nobody knows his real name. His mother murdered him by shattering a mirror and stabbing him to death with a shard of glass.

To summon baby blue, you go into the bathroom (i suggest with at least one other friend) and fog up a mirror. You know how the mirror gets all foggy after you take a shower or something? You can do the same thing by turning on hot water for a while.

Write "Baby Blue" in the mirror fog. Turn off the light and wait a minute. Hold out your arms like you are going to carry a baby. One of you will feel a weight in your arms, like a very heavy baby. You have to hold him for a while, then you can pass him to the next person. if you drop the baby while holding or passing him, you’ll get a scratch on your arm. Drop him twice, get another scratch. Drop him three times…he’ll shatter the mirror and stab you to death.

My friend Bailey and I decided to test this out. Bailey turned out the light and I held out my arms. I felt a very heavy weight in my arms. My hands were sweating and I was so nervous that I dropped Baby Blue. I felt a sharp pain through my arm. I passed the baby to Bailey. Bailey was freaked out that she dropped Baby Blue immediately. I heard her whimper, so i knew she’d gotten a scratch. A few minutes later, i heard another whimper and knew she’d dropped the baby again. "Turn on the light!" she squealed. I flipped on the light. We looked down at our arms and saw bright red scratches on our arms. One for me and two for Bailey.

ANOTHER VERSION:

Go into a bathroom with the lights off and the door closed. Pretend to rock a baby. Chant the phrase “Blue Baby” thirteen times. A baby will appear and scratch you. DROP IT AND RUN! If you don’t, a woman will to appear and scream as loud as glass breaking, "GIVE ME BACK MY BABY!!!" If you have her baby, she will kill you.

AN EXPLOSION OF TECHNOLOGY

OK! I am sorry to be absent on the blog. But now, I am going to talk about technology, and I like that part a lot.

In Dominican Republic it is not unisual to see an older, a young, and even children driven a car, or a motorcicle while talking on a cell phone. In Gualey a beggar might pause in his solicitations to make or take a call on his Celurar Telephone.

Many people have two Celurar Telephone in their pocket. I remerbered many years ago, to have a computer at home, was something really difficult, but now, almost everybady have a computer in their house, but the communications revolution has its dowside. Cell phones, pages, and laptop computes make people accesible almost anytime, anywhere, so causing some users to feel caught in an electronic web. Some people are addicts. There are who have a compulsion to be connected all the time. I have some friends that have a famous Black Berry, and they are connected every single day. Oh my God!

Thank you profesor to remember that I have to white on the BLOG. JEJE

Films

I love films i think that i saw almost all films that present in.universal chanel, hall mark chanel, TNT, estudio universal and MGM. I saw the tigre and the dragon, Matrix, matrix revolution, matrix relower, the momy, the momy returm, the momy: the dragon maldiction and more and more.

But my favorite films are the based in the truth in real anecdotes, but that is no mean that i don like the others. The are some films that i don't like like "The Hero" because there are so many fiction and it is so ireal bit there are others although there are fiction that play with your mind and it could be posible like matrix although we know that is only fiction.

Like i said i love movies because we can lear very much about history and a lot of thing like that.

Movies

One Of The Best-Paid Jobs Ever!!!

This is a game the world knows, a game with billions of fans and thousands of players around the world. A game for two teams (against each other) of nine players each, played with a bat and a ball on a diamond-shaped field... A game call BASEBALL.

This game has become one of the Most Famous Games Ever watched or played; competing with Football (Soccer) and Baseball. In our country a lot of people say that playing baseball keep boys out of drugs, but in the other hand some people say that professional baseball players are (most of them) drugs-adict.

They say PBP (preofessional baseball players) use drugs to play better.I think that is kind of true because when you get to the Major League you have the pressure to be the best, and that`s why some of them end up in drugs. But i also think baseball keep boys out of drugs because they don`t have time to think about that; they are focus on getting sign and be on the Major League.

In the end some people love it, some people hate it. But something that no one can deny is that is a game that entertain millions, a game that sold millions in brands, a game that has movies ( ex: Best Game Ever Played), a game that Most Of The People in the Whole World Enjoy!

My business

When it comes about business, there are many that call my attention. In my thinking, and what I've truely desired, is to open a multi-language interpreting-translating company, which is going to based its experiences in conferencing, data-translation, live-interpretation, govertment issues, among others. Like writing a book, when naming your work interferes in your development, time starts to feel short and tide. There is when you have to finish first what you want to say, or creat, and later to name your "sheets". I haven't chosen any name for the company I want to open in the future; nevertheless, if I were asked today what would that be, I'd say: ILC Live. "Inter-Language Connection Live".

THE MOMY

The first actor is jet li .This movie is about a chinesse momy ,who come back of death .The momy live of course in china ,but he is not only one .There is a witch ,who live too .

I like the momy third ,because is so diferent than first and second .In the these movies were in epyet.
